A quick and easy recipe for a thin, crispy flatbread pizza topped with fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce, and basil, perfect for date night or family gatherings.

  • 1 thin, crispy flatbread or naan (e.g., Stonefire Naan)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) tomato sauce (marinara or pizza sauce)
  • 4 oz (115 g) fresh mozzarella, sliced or torn
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: red pepper flakes
  • Optional: grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it heats.
  2. Lay your flatbread on a clean surface and carefully cut into a heart shape using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  3. If using store-bought sauce, stir it quickly. For homemade, mix crushed tomatoes with salt, pepper, minced garlic, and dried oregano.
  4. Spread about 1/4 cup (60 ml) of sauce evenly over the heart-shaped flatbread, leaving a small border around the edges.
  5. Tear or slice about 4 oz (115 g) fresh mozzarella and scatter it generously over the sauce.
  6. Lightly drizzle 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil over the toppings.
  7. Place the pizza on the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet and bake for 8–12 minutes until the crust is golden and crisp and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately scatter fresh basil leaves over the top.
  9. Sprinkle a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper. Optionally, add red pepper flakes or grated Parmesan.
  10. Let the pizza cool for a minute, then slice carefully along the heart shape and serve warm.

Notes

If the flatbread edges brown too quickly, tent the pizza loosely with foil halfway through baking. Use a pizza stone for the crispiest crust or flip your baking sheet upside down as a budget-friendly alternative. Let the pizza rest a minute after baking for easier slicing. For gluten-free or vegan options, use appropriate flatbread and cheese substitutes.
