This recipe delivers fluffy, tender long-grain white rice cooked perfectly in the Instant Pot with minimal effort. Ideal for busy weeknights or any occasion, it guarantees consistent, delicious results every time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (about 190g)
  • 1¼ cups water (300ml)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter (optional)
  • 1 bay leaf or garlic clove (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water in a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear (about 5 minutes).
  2. Transfer the rinsed rice to the Instant Pot inner pot. Add 1¼ cups water, ½ teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter if using. Add a bay leaf or garlic clove for aroma if desired.
  3. Close the lid, set the valve to sealing, and select the pressure cook (manual) function. Set the timer for 4 minutes on high pressure.
  4. Allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes after cooking.
  5. Carefully switch the valve to venting to release any remaining pressure.
  6. Open the lid, remove the bay leaf or garlic clove, and fluff the rice gently with a wooden spoon or rice paddle before serving.

Notes

Always rinse rice thoroughly to remove excess starch and prevent clumping. Use natural pressure release for best texture. Adjust water by a tablespoon if rice is too wet or dry. Use oil or butter to keep grains separate. Keep Instant Pot sealing ring clean for proper pressure.
