A unique late-night dessert featuring flaky pastry-wrapped apples baked with a tangy, citrusy Mountain Dew glaze. This quick and easy recipe combines sweet, sticky, and spicy flavors for an unforgettable treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 firm apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch wedges
  • 2 store-bought pie crusts, thawed
  • 1 cup regular Mountain Dew soda
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for filling)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a 13×18 inch baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Toss apple wedges in this mixture until evenly coated.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out pie crusts into large rectangles (about 1/8 inch thick). Cut into 6×6 inch squares (4 squares per crust).
  4. Place an apple wedge in the center of each pastry square. Fold corners up and over the apple, pinching edges to seal.
  5. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup Mountain Dew and 1/4 cup granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves and mixture simmers for 2-3 minutes to thicken slightly.
  6. Brush the tops of assembled dumplings with melted unsalted butter.
  7. Bake dumplings for 15-20 minutes, or until pastry is golden brown and crisp.
  8. Remove from oven and immediately drizzle the warm Mountain Dew glaze over the hot dumplings.
  9. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving to allow glaze to set.

Notes

Use regular Mountain Dew, not diet, as sugar is needed for the sticky glaze. Keep pastry cold until baking for best flakiness. Apply glaze immediately after baking while dumplings are hot. If glaze hardens too much, gently reheat in microwave for 10 seconds.
