Crispy Mummy Hot Dogs: 5-Min Easy Halloween Snacks

Crispy Mummy Hot Dogs - featured image

A nostalgic and easy Halloween snack featuring hot dogs wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough with melted cheese, designed to look like mummies. Perfect for parties, kids, and quick weeknight treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tube (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 to 10 standard beef or turkey hot dogs
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (sharp cheddar or American cheese)
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Mustard or ketchup (for dipping)
  • Paprika (for dusting)
  • Parchment paper (for lining baking sheet)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. If hot dogs are large, cut them in half crosswise to create smaller pieces. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  3. Place a small strip or pile of cheese at one end of each hot dog.
  4. Unroll the crescent dough and press perforations together to form a large sheet. Cut the sheet into 1-inch wide strips.
  5. Wrap a dough strip around a hot dog (with cheese), leaving the ends exposed to resemble a mummy’s head and feet. Leave a small gap at the top for the face.
  6. Press small pieces of dough or black olives onto the exposed ‘head’ area to create eyes.
  7. Brush the dough with the egg wash and sprinkle lightly with paprika.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the dough is golden brown and puffed.
  9. Let cool for 2 minutes before serving to allow cheese to set slightly and prevent burns. Serve with mustard or ketchup.

Notes

Keep the dough cold to prevent sticking. Do not wrap the hot dogs too tightly or the dough may burst. The cheese inside will be very hot, so allow them to cool for at least 2 minutes before serving. For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free crescent dough. For dairy-free, use vegan cheese and hot dogs.
