These adorable Halloween appetizers feature mini sausages wrapped in flaky puff pastry to look like mummies. They are quick to prepare, crowd-pleasing, and perfect for spooky season parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed but cold) OR 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 24–30 mini sausages or cocktail wieners
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Black olives, sliced into small circles (for eyes)
  • Dijon mustard or ketchup (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. If using puff pastry, let it sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes until pliable but still cold. Unroll onto a lightly floured surface and roll to 1/8 inch thickness.
  3. Cut the pastry into strips approximately 1 inch wide.
  4. Place a mini sausage at one end of a pastry strip. Wrap the pastry around the sausage, leaving 1/4 inch gaps between wraps to create the ‘mummy’ look. Press ends to seal.
  5. Repeat with all sausages and pastry strips.
  6. Cut small circles from black olives and place two on top of each wrapped sausage to create eyes. Press gently to adhere.
  7. Brush the wrapped sausages generously with the egg wash.
  8. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown. Check at 12 minutes to prevent burning.
  9. Let cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes before serving with mustard or ketchup.

Notes

Keep the dough cold to ensure flaky layers. If using crescent rolls, separate triangles and roll into rectangles before cutting. For a gluten-free version, use GF puff pastry. Do not microwave leftovers as it makes the pastry soggy; reheat in the oven or air fryer.
