A quick and kid-approved snack mix perfect for long drives, balancing crunchy, sweet, and salty flavors without sticky mess or sugar crash.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (50g) Cheerios or O-shaped cereal
  • 1 cup (40g) mini pretzels
  • 1/2 cup (70g) hulled and roasted sunflower seeds
  • 3/4 cup (100g) raisins or dried cranberries
  • 1 cup (30g) cheese crackers (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon (1g) ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1g) sea salt

Instructions

  1. Measure out your dry ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups (50g) of Cheerios, 1 cup (40g) of mini pretzels, 1/2 cup (70g) of roasted sunflower seeds, 3/4 cup (100g) of raisins or dried cranberries, and 1 cup (30g) of cheese crackers. Stir gently to mix evenly.
  2. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons (30ml) of honey or maple syrup with 1/2 teaspoon (1g) of ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon (1g) of sea salt until well combined.
  3. Drizzle the honey mixture evenly over the dry ingredients. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to fold everything together gently, ensuring a light coating without clumping.
  4. Spread the snack mix out on a parchment-lined baking sheet or tray to cool and set for 10-15 minutes to firm up the coating.
  5. Once cool, transfer the mix into an air-tight container or resealable bags for storage.
  6. Optional: Toast sunflower seeds or pretzels in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3-5 minutes before mixing for extra crunch.

Notes

Letting the mix rest on a baking sheet helps the honey coating firm up and prevents stickiness. Toasting seeds or pretzels enhances flavor. Adjust honey amount for sweetness preference. Involve kids in mixing for a fun pre-trip activity. Store in airtight container for up to a week at room temperature.
