This easy slow cooker cinnamon applesauce requires no peeling and uses simple ingredients. Just chop, dump, and let the slow cooker do the work for a naturally sweet, budget-friendly homemade applesauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds apples (about 68 medium), a mix of sweet and tart varieties like Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala, and Granny Smith
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup water or apple cider
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 12 tablespoons maple syrup or honey (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg or allspice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and prep the apples: rinse apples, cut into quarters, remove stems and flower parts, cut each quarter into 2-3 chunks.
  2. Load the slow cooker: add apple chunks, cinnamon, lemon juice, and water or apple cider. Stir to coat. Add optional sweetener or spices if using.
  3. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until apples are very soft and falling apart.
  4. Remove cores and seeds: use a slotted spoon to scoop out any floating seeds or core pieces.
  5. Blend or mash to desired consistency: use an immersion blender for smooth applesauce or a potato masher for chunky texture.
  6. Taste and adjust: add more cinnamon, sweetener, or lemon juice if needed.
  7. Cool and store: let applesauce cool to room temperature (about 30 minutes), then transfer to airtight containers and refrigerate.

Notes

Use a mix of apple varieties for best flavor. Do not overfill the slow cooker; leave at least an inch of space. For thicker applesauce, cook with lid off for 30-60 minutes or add a tablespoon of instant oats or chia seeds. Store in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 6 months.
