This quick garlic butter shrimp skillet comes together in just 15 minutes with simple ingredients like shrimp, butter, garlic, and lemon. It’s the perfect weeknight dinner that feels special without any fuss.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Prep the shrimp. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Season them lightly with salt and pepper on both sides. Set aside.
  2. Heat the pan. Place your skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter. Swirl the pan as the butter melts. Let it cook for about 1-2 minutes until it starts to foam and turns a light golden brown. You’ll smell a nutty aroma.
  3. Sear the shrimp. Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Don’t overcrowd the pan. Let them cook undisturbed for 2 minutes. Flip each shrimp and cook for another 1-2 minutes until they’re pink and opaque throughout. Transfer the cooked shrimp to a plate and set aside.
  4. Cook the garlic. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the pan. Once it melts, add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir constantly for about 30-45 seconds until the garlic is fragrant but not browned.
  5. Finish the sauce. Add the lemon juice and lemon zest to the pan. Stir everything together, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it bubble for about 30 seconds.
  6. Combine and serve. Return the shrimp to the skillet, along with any juices that accumulated on the plate. Toss everything together until the shrimp are well coated in the garlic butter sauce. Sprinkle with fresh parsley. Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

Pat shrimp dry for best sear. Don’t overcook shrimp; they are done when pink and opaque. Use fresh lemon juice for best flavor. Work in batches if skillet is crowded.
