A creamy, spicy buffalo chicken dip made with a stovetop-to-oven technique for perfect texture, decorated with olives to look like spiders. It is a crowd-pleasing, gluten-free friendly appetizer perfect for Halloween or game day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 1/2 cup buffalo sauce
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup full-fat ranch dressing
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup sliced green olives (for spider legs)
  • Few black olives, sliced thinly (for spider eyes)
  • Celery and carrots, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut cream cheese into cubes and let sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to soften.
  2. Shred the cooked chicken using two forks or chop into smaller chunks for even mixing.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Add the softened cream cheese and stir constantly with a spatula until completely smooth and creamy (5-7 minutes).
  4. Add the buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, garlic powder, and shredded cheddar cheese to the skillet. Stir until the cheese is melted and the mixture is glossy and combined.
  5. Fold in the shredded chicken, ensuring every piece is coated in the cheesy sauce.
  6. Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe baking dish (8×8 inch or similar) and spread evenly.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes, until edges are bubbling and the top is slightly golden.
  8. Remove from the oven and immediately place sliced green olives on top to form spider legs and black olive slices for eyes. Press gently to adhere.
  9. Let the dip rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow it to set slightly.
  10. Serve warm with celery sticks, carrot sticks, or tortilla chips.

Notes

Ensure cream cheese is fully softened to avoid lumps. Drain shredded chicken well to prevent a soupy dip. If the top browns too quickly during baking, cover loosely with foil. This dip is best eaten within an hour of baking as it firms up when cool. Do not freeze as dairy may separate.
