A quick, chunky, and vibrant side dish made with fresh cranberries, oranges, and ginger. This relish offers a perfect balance of tart, sweet, and spicy flavors, ready in under 10 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz Fresh Cranberries
  • 2 Large Navel Oranges (zested and juiced)
  • 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Ginger (peeled and chopped)
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 Cup Water (optional, if needed for blending)

Instructions

  1. Wash oranges thoroughly. Zest the oranges to get about 2 tablespoons of zest, avoiding the bitter white pith. Cut oranges in half and juice them to get about 1/2 cup of fresh juice. Strain out seeds.
  2. Peel the fresh ginger root using a spoon. Chop it roughly to help the food processor blades catch it.
  3. Rinse the cranberries under cold water and pick out any bad berries.
  4. Add the cranberries, orange zest, orange juice, sugar, ginger, and salt to the food processor bowl.
  5. Pulse the processor in short bursts for 2-3 minutes. Stop frequently to check texture; you want visible chunks of fruit, not a puree. Add a splash of water if too dry or more cranberries if too wet.
  6. Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness or tartness as needed.
  7. Transfer the relish to an airtight glass jar or container. Cover tightly and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, though overnight is best for flavors to meld.

Notes

This relish is best served cold. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or frozen for up to three months. Do not over-blend, as the texture should remain chunky. Fresh ginger is essential for the best flavor; ground ginger is not recommended. The flavors will mellow slightly after chilling.
